According to Commision Regulation (EC) No 1255/2010 of 22 December 2010, Institute of Meat Hygiene and Technology has been again, appointed to issue Certificates of Authenticity for export of baby beef (quotas of 8 700 tons) on EU market, for teritory of Republic Serbia.
The Institute of Meat Hygiene and Technology got the licence for the authenticity certificate, first time in the year 2002., according to the directive No 1168/2002. Since than, Institute regulatory gets this licence, and was only one institution, that may issue this kind of certificates on region of Republic of Serbia.

The European Union Mission from Food and Veterinary Office (FVO) has visited the Institute of Meat Hygiene and Technology with the aim to evaluate the capacities of the Institute laboratory to perform the analyses of food safety and quality parameters of poultry meat and products intended for export to the EU market, according to the EU legislative. After the visit and presentation of the laboratories, analytical methods accredited according to ISO standards and the EU legislation, members of the Mission concluded that the laboratory, with its current scientific potential and expertise, supported by sophisticated analytical equipment, is competent to perform analyses of poultry meat and products intended for export to the EU market. Mission of the FVO (Food and Veterinary Office) has visited the Institute of Meat Hygiene and Technology in order to verify the capacity of the Institute’s laboratories for the analysis of safety and quality parameters concerning fish and fish products intended for export to the EU market, according to the current EU legislation. The mission team presented their remarks concerning the differences between the EU and national legislative in respect to microbiological parameters and environmental contaminants in fish. They empasized the necessity of adoption of Regulation concerning determination of freshness of fish (TVBN – total volatile basic nitrogen and TMA - trimethylamine). Differences in maximum residue limits for histamine in national and EU legislative were also underlined, as well as differences in analytical methodology used for determination of histamine content. After the visit to the laboratories of the Institute and inspection of analytical methods accredited according to ISO standards that are valid in the EU, during the closing meeting held in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, the Mission team gave the opinion that the Institute of Meat Hygiene and Technology can meet the requirements necessary for issuing the safety certificates of fish and fish products intended for export on the EU market. The Institute of Meat Hygiene and Technology was the host of the meeting of Serbian microbiologists Society discussing the activities related to the membership in the Federation of the European Microbiologists Society (FEMS). The members of the Society were informed about the VII Congress of microbiologists of Serbia and at the same time had the oportunity to listen to the lecture given by dr Slavica Veskovic-Moracanin from the Institute of Meat Hygiene and Technology titled „Bacteriocins of LAB as natural protectors of food - application possibilities in meat industry“ and the lecture held by dr Petar Knezevic from the Faculty of Sciences from Belgrade titled „Bacteriophages of Pseudomonas aeruginosa as antimicrobial agents.
