The Institute for Hygiene and Meat Technology is a research and development institute that organizes and conducts scientific research of an interdisciplinary nature in the field of biotechnology. The results of the research are applied in the economy, in cooperation with producers from the meat industry and the food industry.

At the study program Toxicology at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Belgrade, Sasa Jankovic, a graduate pharmacist from the Institute of Hygiene and Meat Technology, defended his doctoral dissertation entitled "Risk assessment of exposure to organohalogen contaminants and heavy metals through food." The commission for the defense of the dissertation was composed of the following: dr sc. Biljana Antonijevic, mentor and president of the commission, Ph.D. Zorica Bulat, assistant professor, member from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Dr. Aurelija Spiric, retired scientific advisor from the Institute of Hygiene and Meat Technology.
